Challenging Car Parks for Commercial Vehicles

1. Mustafa Centre

Both Basement and Multi-story car parks @Mustafa Centre features a narrow one-way ramp up and down slope. If you are driving a large vehicle or long-wheelbase vehicle, you need to be extra careful. Furthermore, there are 3 car parks with 3 different entrances and exits, so it might get confusing for some if they have forgotten where they parked. 1st car park entrance is located along Syed Alwi Road, the multi-storey surface car park entrance is located along the alleyway off verdun road and the multi-storey basement car park entrance is located along the alleyway off Sam Leong Road.

2. City Square

While there are 2 entrances to the City Square car park, the most challenging one is from Kitchener Link, where you have to overcome a steep incline and decline ramp, which blocks your view from the front. As you maneuver down / up the 2-way slope, you need to slow down for opposing traffic flow as some drivers might cut into your lane, as they are making the bends to overcompensate for the tight curves.

3. Jurong Point

The challenges in Jurong Point 1 & 2 parking, aren’t space or route, but speed bumps. Many, many speed bumps. So commercial vans which are not using the designated loading bays have to go really slow over speed bumps to avoid potential damage to fragile goods. Look out for the special rarely seen double speed bumps within 1 wheel-span length apart.

4. Clifford Centre

For mid-size vans such as Toyota Hiace, or Renault Traffic, drivers need to take the long, steep narrow climb up to reach the parking gantry barrier, before making a sharp turn right. There are some blind spots here, which can easily scratch the vehicle if one is not careful.

5. Bugis Junction

Bugis Junction Parking has many twists and turns, but the real challenge is the long ramp when you exit. Most mid-size vans with an engine above 2,000cc would tackle it easily, but with the smaller vans on 668cc, you need to gun it at the lowest gear with at least 3,000 RPM to make the climb.

6. Fortune Centre

Aside from the steep climb towards the car park, take caution in two areas. Firstly, the ramp leading to the entrance gantry is rather dim, we recommend switching on your headlights for safety. Secondly, if you are parking head-in near the ramps, watch the blind spots when you reverse to exit, to ensure no other vehicles are coming up/down the ramps.

7. Shaw Centre

The main challenge for Shaw Centre is the size of the parking lots. Matter-of-fact, some lots are designated for hatchback vehicles only (watch out for the signs). So please don’t attempt to park in these special lots. On the regular size parking lots, we recommend parking head-in first, otherwise, it’s unlike you are able to open your rear doors to unload cargo. To exit Shaw Centre, you must drive a few levels up first before the exit sign is visible

8. Tanglin Shopping Centre – Height Clearance of 1.7M

With a height clearance of only 1.7M, and almost all commercial vans and trucks sold are already above this height, you should not park here. Instead, if you need to visit Tanglin Shopping Centre, we suggest parking at Forum The Shopping Mall instead, which is 2.1M in height clearance.
