Buying a truck soon? Here are some tips and tricks that you should know to stay safe on the road!
1. Drive within the speed limit
Always ensure you drive within the designated speed limit of the road.
Truck/lorries must not travel faster than 60km/h or the road speed limit, whichever is lower.
2. Be predictable
When changing lanes or turning, always ensure that you signal in advance.
Avoid frequent unnecessary lane changes and keep between the road lines at all times.
3. Maintain sufficient safe distance
Make sure there’s safe distance between you and the vehicle ahead.
Apply the 7-second rule to maintain safe driving distance, so that you have adequate time and space to react.
4. Avoid distractions
Always pay full attention to the road, avoid using your phone while driving to reply to messages or accept a call.
Pay extra attention when passing through areas with limited visibility, turns and when passing pedestrian crossing/school zones.
5. Situational awareness
Make it a habit to always check your mirrors and blind spots. As a truck has a taller and bulkier build, there are more blind spots to look out for compared to a normal car.
Pay close attention and be wary of your surroundings especially towards small vehicles like motorcycles and bicycles.
